Whole Chicken:
Brazilian Chicken: Leading the Global Market
Chicken meat is Brazil’s top export in the protein category, surpassing beef, and reaching markets in 158 countries worldwide. Saudi Arabia has emerged as the largest importer of Brazilian chicken, accounting for 17% of exports, with China following closely at 11.5%. As the world’s largest exporter of chicken, Brazil shipped approximately 4.9 million tonnes in 2024. The United States, the second-largest exporter, shipped around 3.8 million tonnes during the same period.
Brazil’s poultry exports experienced significant growth in 2024. In February alone, export volumes rose by 3.8%, while revenues surged by an impressive 26%, driven by higher global prices. This increase was influenced by the persistent challenges of avian influenza in key poultry-producing regions around the world, reducing global supply. According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), Brazil exported 348,000 tonnes of poultry products (including fresh, processed, and sausages) in February, compared to 336,000 tonnes in the same month the previous year. Export revenue reached USD 658 million, a notable increase from USD 522 million in February 2023.
For the first half of 2024, Brazil exported 2.48 million tonnes of chicken meat, marking a 12.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This consistent growth underscores Brazil’s strength as a reliable supplier of poultry to the global market. While Brazil leads in exports, it remains the world’s second-largest producer, with an annual production of approximately 14.2 million tonnes, second only to the United States, which produced around 18.9 million tonnes in 2024.
These achievements highlight Brazil’s pivotal role in meeting global poultry demand, especially during periods of supply disruption, solidifying its reputation as a leader in the global protein market.
